Master of Science in Design and Artificial Intelligence for Enterprise

The MSc DAI-E Studio experience

 A year-long industry engagement

Artificial Intelligence is an empirical discipline, where hands-on experience is critical. True mastery comes not only from coursework, but from sustained real-world application.

The MSc DAI-E Studio is a defining component of the MSc DAI-E programme. Spanning over the entire academic year, it provides students with extended engagement on real-world industry-driven AI projects.

Each student benefits from:

  • One dedicated SUTD faculty mentor
  • One industry mentor from the host organisation
  • Continuous technical and professional guidance throughout the project lifecycle

This structured mentorship model fosters a rare and meaningful collaboration between academia, industry, and student.

Real projects. Real data. Real impact.

The MSc DAI-E Studio projects are hosted by industry partners and tackle authentic, high-stakes enterprise challenges. Students do not work on hypothetical case studies. They engage with real organisations, real datasets, and real operational constraints, developing AI systems that are intended for meaningful deployment.

Some recent examples of MSc DAI-E Studio projects include:

  • Embodied AI: Design and development of AI-enabled robotic and mobile systems to assist seniors in navigating public environments and performing daily tasks safely, integrating perception, decision-making, and real-world interaction capabilities.
  • Security & AI: Architecting a secure, centralised AI-driven platform to detect, analyse, and mitigate cyber intrusion threats across complex industrial infrastructure.
  • Human-centred design: Designing a construction-support robotic system with a user-centric interface aimed at enhancing engagement, improving safety perception, and reducing cognitive stress during emergency operations.
  • Analytics & AI in operations: Building an AI-powered digital twin to optimise warehouse layout, routing, and operational efficiency using real-time enterprise data streams.

Each project demands system-level thinking, technical depth, stakeholder alignment, and production-oriented implementation, mirroring the expectations graduates will face in professional AI roles.

Deep engagement, not short-term exposure

Unlike short-duration projects that focus on limited prototypes, the DAI-E Studio spans multiple terms, allowing students to:

  • Progress from problem framing to full system design
  • Implement and iterate on technical solutions
  • Validate performance and deployment feasibility
  • Deliver production-oriented outputs

This extended format enables deeper technical development and more meaningful outcomes.

Portfolio and career impact

By the end of the Studio experience, students graduate with:

  • A substantial AI project portfolio
  • Real-world experience navigating enterprise constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver AI solutions end-to-end
  • Industry mentorship relationships

The DAI-E Studio ensures that graduates leave not only with academic knowledge, but with proven enterprise-ready capability.

Flexible hosting options

Studio projects are typically hosted by external companies, and arranged by SUTD.

For part-time students, employer-hosted studios may be possible, allowing direct application of programme learning within their current organisation, subject to approval.
