03.007B Innovating with Design and AI-2
Innovating with Design and AI (IDeA-2) builds upon the foundations established in IDeA-1, guiding students through the realisation and refinement of their design concepts.
Students will translate prior user research and ideation into functional design solutions that address real-world challenges. Emphasizing iterative development, the course introduces practical tools for rapid prototyping and integrates AI to support testing, evaluation, and feedback loops.
By the end of the course, students will deliver a functional prototype that demonstrates both technical feasibility and user-centred design—preparing them for advanced implementation and deployment in subsequent project-based courses.
Learning objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Translate user insights into clear design requirements
- Define and conduct subsystem performance testing
- Refine and integrate subsystems into functional prototypes
- Plan and execute effective teamwork
- Formulate and produce effective communication with multi-media content
- Gain proficiency in using AI tools to accelerate design
Measurable outcomes
- Students set clear and achievable design targets based on identified user needs
- Students align prototyping objectives with a structured testing plan
- Students integrate software, electrical, and mechanical subsystems into a high-fidelity functional design
- Students demonstrate collaboration
- Students advance 3D modelling skills to create a high-fidelity virtual site model
- Students demonstrate effective use of AI tools during ideation and prototyping
Grading scheme
Students will be graded based on class activities, design reviews, homework, teamwork, class participation, and final prototypes.
