ASD Distinguished Lecture Series by Tom Verebes

06 Mar 2015 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm SUTD, 8 Somapah Road, LT 4

Synopsis
In this lecture, Tom Verebes will speculate upon the ramifications of computationally-driven design and production technologies, whose methods and applications are well-rehearsed in architectural design, practice, teaching and research, yet remain largely untested at the vast scale of the contemporary city. Through a discursive survey of the theoretical background to an adaptive and evolutional design approach to urbanism, Verebes will explicate the context for the work of his practice, OCEAN CN Consultancy Network and his teaching and research at The University of Hong Kong and the Architectural Association in London.  His design research also targets the paradigm shift from mass production to increasingly customised and non-standard design and production. The specific and differentiated attributes of a Distinctive Urbanism is perhaps contrary to The Generic City, biasing the specific and unique, over the general and reproducible.
