Science, Technology and Policy Workshop 2018
The STP workshop is developed to help graduate students understand the complexities of formulating policies at the interface of science and technology. In its third year, the 2018 edition of the STP workshop puts the spotlight on science, technology and policy issues related to Industry 4.0, namely: artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, robotics, and governing disruptive changes.
The workshop brings together graduate students from NTU, NUS, SUTD, ETH Zurich, TU Munich and MIT to jointly explore the role and impact of science and technology in public policy, and to contextualise this understanding based on the realities in Singapore as it plans for the future. It is hosted by CREATE, a programme under NRF.
Over the course of five days, participants will be introduced to topics related to the implication of industry 4.0 on the future of work, education and skills training, and on governance through a series of presentations, dialogues, and site visits. Their findings, analysis and recommendations will be presented on the final day of the workshop on 20 July 2018. As part of the workshop program, the delegation will be touring SUTD’s iTrust and DManD labs on July 17.
The organizing committee, comprising Prof Dan Hastings (SMART/MIT), Prof Gerhard Schmitt (ETH), Prof Maria-Elisabeth Michel-Beyerle (NTU/TUM), Asst Prof Lynette Cheah (SUTD), Asst Prof Michel-Alexandre Cardin (NUS), Prof Janelle Thompson (SMART/MIT), is grateful for the sponsorship from the universities who are sending their graduate students to participate.
