Are you up for it? *This Hackathon is open only to students in the final or penultimate year of high school studies. The mission Understanding and improving traffic conditions by randomly wandering around. The Hackathon In this volatile and uncertain world, it can be hard to predict what will come next. Yet, there are some individuals, businesses and governments who may emerge as winners, as they are able to model and manage their risks and uncertainties. In this two-day online hackathon, you will: be introduced to the Monte Carlo Simulation – a very powerful tool to model the probability of different outcomes in a process that cannot easily be predicted due to the intervention of random variables. It has applications in virtually every field, including finance, engineering, supply chain, and social sciences utilise the simulation to model traffic work in groups to propose and test different solutions to improve traffic conditions You will also get to learn more about one of our premier programmes – the SUTD Honours and Research Programme (SHARP) and stand to win attractive prizes! Prizes for winners of the challenge 1st prize: eCapitaVouchers worth S$500 2nd prize: eCapitaVouchers worth S$300 3rd prize: eCapitaVouchers worth S$100 Programme Day 1: 10 June, Thursday Day 2: 11 June, Friday 10 June, Thursday 9.30am Welcome presentation: Introduction to SHARP and to the Hackathon Associate Professor Dario Poletti Programme Director for SHARP and Associate Head of Cluster for Graduate Programme and Research (Science, Mathematics and Technology) 10.00am Basic notions of Monte Carlo simulations by Prof Dario Poletti 11.00am Monte Carlo and Cryptography Associate Professor Bikramjit Das Engineering Systems and Design 11.45am Start of Hackathon 12.30pm Lunch break 2.00pm Commence work on the Hackathon with the help of mentors 5.00pm End of Day One 11 June, Friday 9.30am Continue work on the Hackathon with the help of mentors 12.30pm Lunch break 2.00pm Group presentations and judging 4.30pm Award ceremony 5.00pm End of Day Two Registration Registration for this Hackathon is closed. This Hackathon is open only to students in the final or penultimate year of high school studies. Limited to 40 participants on a first-come-first-served basis.
