My heartiest congratulations to all graduands and your families. You have come a long way to achieve this significant milestone. Today, we gather to celebrate not one, but two graduations. The first is of course your graduation, and the second, the graduation of SUTD. Let me talk about the graduation of SUTD first.

Today is one of my favorite days of the year. We are here to celebrate with all SUTD graduates, their family and friends. Today we celebrate not only our undergraduates and master’s degree students, but also for the first time, PhD students graduating from SUTD. Congratulations to you all.

On behalf of the entire faculty and staff of SUTD, we are so pleased to have our new Freshmore class of 2017-2018 as part of our community.

I am delighted to be present today wearing the hat of the Chairman of the National Arts Council and as Chairman of the Lee Kuan Yew Center for Innovative Cities at this presentation of a bronze statue of Beethoven to SUTD.

Today marks a new milestone in your life, and it is my honour to be here. Congratulations to all of you.

Class of 2016, as you can imagine, it gives me enormous pleasure to join you today as we celebrate your graduation from SUTD and the journey of learning, personal growth, fun and enjoyment that you have experienced over the past few years.

I am truly delighted that my first public duty as the Chairman of SUTD is to congratulate YOU, our graduating students of the 2016 cohort.
