About 60% of energy input to society is lost, mostly in the form of heat. This research project proposes a thermionic energy converter, which is based on graphene interface, to convert low-temperature waste heat into electricity. Unlike conventional devices which have conversion efficiencies of between 5 and 8%, the proposed converter has an efficiency exceeding 8%. This makes it a promising alternative for waste heat harvesting.
