Fo Guang Shan (Singapore) Bursary Award

The Fo Guang Shan (Singapore) Bursary Award is established to promote meritocratic access to education and provide financial assistance to students in financial need.


  • Full-time SUTD undergraduates of any nationality
  • Enrolled in any year of study, pursuing any pillar at the University
  • Demonstrated financial need (monthly household PCI less than S$2,000)
  • Good academic standing
  • Good moral character and community spirit
  • Must NOT be a current scholarship holder


  • Each Bursary Award is tenable for one academic year only
  • Recipients may reapply to be considered for the Bursary Award in their subsequent year of study, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria

Benefits of Award

  • S$6,000 per annum
  • The Bursary Award is strictly for tuition fees and study-related expenses only
  • No bond attached

Things to Note

Successful recipients are required to organise a one day workshop on innovation and creativity for Fo Guang Shan youth members.

The Award shall be applied towards the recipient’s tuition fees at the University (after subsidy from the Ministry of Education) for one Academic Year. Bursary recipients must take up the Tuition Fee Grant Subsidy by the Singapore Government.

Established in 1996 by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, Fo Guang Shan (Singapore) strives to realise his vision of building a harmonious and compassionate human society by integrating wisdom and compassion into the advancement of education, culture, social welfare services and social togetherness among the people. The objectives of the organization are to:
  • Promote holistic education so that children will grow up to be responsible adults who are robust in health, clear in their thoughts and respectful of others.
  • Inculcate moral values through meaningful cultural activities and charitable practices.
  • Provide financial assistance for the education of the dependants of the poor and needy.
  • Provide community services including childcare centres, before and after school student care centres among others.
Fo Guang Shan (Singapore) has always placed great emphasis on education with the aim of moulding and cultivating the people with the right principles to enable them to lead fulfilling lives. In the long run, the overall well-being of the nation will be enhanced. Thus regular classes are conducted to educate young children with the right morals and values, study programmes are organised for the children of the needy to enable them to level up in their ten years of education and bursary awards are given to needy and deserving primary and secondary students.
