SBF Foundation — SUTD Scholarship

The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Foundation is partnering with SUTD to support the business community to meet local manpower needs for talent in design, technology and engineering sectors. The SBF Foundation — SUTD Scholarship is established to ensure that a quality education remains accessible to Singapore students, particularly those with demonstrated financial need. SBF Foundation scholarship recipients have the added advantage of access to the SBF member companies.


The Scholarship is open to Singapore Citizens who

  • are applying for admission to SUTD’s undergraduate degree programme

  • have outstanding Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'A' level, Local Polytechnic Diploma, NUS High School Diploma, IB Diploma or Year 12 equivalent qualifications

  • show exemplary leadership skills and social consciousness

  • have demonstrated financial need (monthly household Per Capita Income of S$2,000 and below)

Priority will be given to students with monthly household Per Capita Income of less than S$1,500.


  • The Scholarship is valued at S$15,000 per academic year and is tenable for the normal duration (up to four years) of the respective degree programme at SUTD

  • The quantum will be used towards the annual subsidised tuition fees (after Tuition Grant)

  • No bond is attached to the Scholarship. The recipient must take up the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) from the Singapore Government to enjoy subsidised fees.

  • The Scholarship also covers hostel fees for the Freshmore terms where hostel stay is compulsory.


  • The recipient is required to achieve and maintain good academic standing. Academic performance will be reviewed every term.

  • The recipient should strive to take up leadership positions in Fifth Row and represent SUTD through participation of competitions.

  • Successful recipients may be granted internship and/or career opportunities with the donor or the donor affiliated companies.

  • The recipient is required to undertake one project that will benefit the community/industry or participate in community service (includes being a University ambassador) during the award period.

  • Participate in SBF Foundation or SBF related outreach events.

  • ​Recipients may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.

  • The scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the University, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.

  • If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis

  • The recipient is required to complete at least 20 hours of service to the university. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.


  • Application for the scholarship is made at the same time as application for admission to SUTD.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified in due course.

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.

  • SUTD reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.


The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Foundation was founded in June 2013 by the Singapore Business Federation, and launched on 12 November 2013 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Envisioned to be a collective foundation of the business community, for the community of Singapore, the SBF Foundation seeks to reach out to, and transform lives of, the underprivileged and disadvantaged among us.
