SUTD-Polytechnic Special Arrangement (SPSA)

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has partnered with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to launch a special programme for outstanding students in selected diploma courses to gain conditional admission to SUTD and be immersed in a longitudinal preparatory programme for your undergraduate studies at SUTD while studying in the respective polytechnics.

Programme Highlights

SPSA students will have the opportunity to experience SUTD's distinctive pedagogy which emphasizes hands-on, design-centric and interdisciplinary learning through two (2) specially-curated courses. These original courses are taken from SUTD's undergraduate curriculum and offered to SPSA students during the polytechnic semester breaks, allowing you to gain a head start on your undergraduate studies in SUTD.

  • Gain conditional admission to SUTD
  • Attend two (2) specially-curated courses by SUTD
  • Be exempted from two (2) modules1 in the first year of your study at SUTD
  • Mentorship by SUTD faculty
  • Get invited to SUTD workshops and events, and get a preview of student life in SUTD

Programme Structure

Specially-Curated Courses

Students enrolled in SPSA will receive conditional admission to SUTD and are required to take two (2) specially-curated courses during your semester breaks, that will allow you to gain a head start to a degree in SUTD:

  • Compact 03.007 Introduction to Design
    • This course covers the same curriculum content as the 03.007 Introduction to Design module taken by all SUTD Freshmores.
    • It will be taught over three (3) full weeks during the polytechnic September vacation after Semester 3.
  • Compact 10.001 Advanced Mathematics I
    • This course covers the same curriculum content as the 10.001 Advanced Mathematics I module taken by all SUTD Freshmores.
    • It will be taught over three (3) full weeks during the polytechnic March vacation after Semester 4.
    • This course is optional for SP students who take the SP Advanced Mathematics electives 1-3. However, to qualify for course exemption2, students must sit for the Compact 10.001 Advanced Mathematics I test.

Firm Offer of Admission to SUTD

Upon fulfilling the requirements for the conditional admission, you will be notified of your firm offer of admission to SUTD before Semester 6. At the same time, qualifying students will also be notified of any scholarship offers for your undergraduate studies.

The requirements include:

  • Maintaining a satisfactory CGPA of at least 3.70;
  • Passing the Compact 03.007 Introduction to Design course (offered by SUTD); and
  • Passing the Compact 10.001 Advanced Mathematics I course (offered by SUTD) or all 3 of the Advanced Mathematics electives (applicable to SP students).

Exemption

With B-grade passes in the Compact 03.007 Introduction to Design and Compact 10.001 Advanced Mathematics I3 courses, students will be exempted from the following SUTD Freshmore modules respectively:
