SUTD-Polytechnic Special Arrangement (SPSA)

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has partnered with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to launch a special programme for outstanding students in selected diploma courses to gain conditional admission to SUTD and be immersed in a longitudinal preparatory programme for your undergraduate studies at SUTD while studying in the respective polytechnics.

Programme Highlights

SPSA students will have the opportunity to experience SUTD's distinctive pedagogy which emphasizes hands-on, design-centric and interdisciplinary learning through two (2) specially-curated modules. These original modules are taken from SUTD's undergraduate curriculum and offered to SPSA students during the polytechnic semester breaks, allowing you to gain a head start on your undergraduate studies in SUTD.

  • Attend two (2) SUTD Term 1 modules during your polytechnic semester break
  • Be exempted from the two (2) modules1 in the first year of your study at SUTD
  • Mentorship by SUTD faculty
  • Get invited to SUTD workshops and events, and get a preview of student life in SUTD
  • Gain conditional admission to SUTD at the end of Semester 4

Programme Structure

Specially-Curated Modules

Students enrolled in SPSA will have the opportunity to get a preview of SUTD and gain a head-start on their undergraduate studies by taking two (2) SUTD university-level modules during your semester breaks:

  • Compact Physical World 
    • This module covers the same curriculum content as the Physical World module taken by all SUTD Freshmores.
    • It will be taught over three (3) full weeks during the polytechnic September semester break after Semester 3.
  • Compact Modelling and Analysis
    • This module covers the same curriculum content as the Modelling and Analysis module taken by all SUTD Freshmores.
    • It will be taught over three (3) full weeks during the polytechnic March semester break after Semester 4.
    • This module is optional for SP students who take the SP Advanced Mathematics electives 1-3. However, to qualify for module exemption2, students must sit for the Compact Modelling and Analysis test.

Offer of Admission to SUTD

At the end of Semester 4, SPSA students may be offered conditional admission to SUTD if they fulfil the following requirements:

  • Maintaining a satisfactory CGPA of at least 3.60; 
  • Passing at least one of the compact modules 

The admission offer will be finalized upon satfisfactory maintenance of the CGPA for Semester 5. Students may still apply for scholarship and special programmes based on their 5-semester results. 

Exemption

With B-grade passes in the Compact Physical World and Compact Modelling and Analysis3 modules, students will be exempted from the following SUTD Freshmore modules respectively:

Application

Eligibility

  • Application is open to students of all nationalities who have a strong interest in engineering, architecture or design.
  • NP students who are admitted to Diploma of Engineering Science (N93) may apply to SPSA during Semester 3 of their diploma course.
  • SP students who are admitted to selected SP diploma courses (see below) may apply to SPSA during Semester 3 (for current students) and Semester 2 of their diploma course (for those enrolling in SP in 2020) respectively.
  • Applicants should have a good pass in Mathematics modules at both the GCE ‘O’ Level or equivalent as well as in their diploma course taken at their respective Polytechnics and attain a CGPA of at least 3.60 at the time of application.
