FIRST Industry Workshop 2016

Over 300 guests were present at the inaugural FIRST Industry Workshop, the first-ever platform to bring together SUTD’s industry partners, SUTD faculty and SUTD graduate students.

Professor Yeo Kiat Seng (then Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and International Relations, SUTD) officially kicked off the event before keynote speeches by Mr Tham Sai Choy (Managing Partner and Regional Chairman of KPMG) and Mr Lim Chye Seng (Deputy Director for Corporate Business Development in ICS, MediaTek Singapore).

Memorandum of Understanding with the Building and Construction Authority

SUTD inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to collaborate in the following areas:

  1. Development and technology transfer in the areas of the built environment
  2. Graduate-level manpower training (e.g. Industrial Postgraduate Programme)
  3. SUTD Capstone industry projects and Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP) projects
  4. Internship opportunities

2016 Research Showcase

Over three dozen innovative research projects from SUTD graduate students were on display at the SUTD Campus Centre. These research projects were structured around three of the Singapore Government’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2020 Plan (RIE2020) primary technology domains:

Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering

New methods and solutions that will improve the productivity of and add new capabilities for Singapore’s manufacturing and engineering sectors (both traditional and emerging), thereby ensuring their continued growth and business competitiveness.

Digital Solutions & Services

Continuing advances in artificial intelligence/machine learning, computing analysis, cybersecurity and other innovative areas will fundamentally change existing business models and set the stage for a whole new digital economy.

Urban Sustainable Solutions

Advances in urban mobility, water treatment, unmanned surveillance and other human-centric processes and solutions that will enhance Singaporeans’ living and working environment.
