SUTD is building Asia’s leading game design research and training programme that will meet industry needs, nurture entrepreneurs and grow a robust and sustainable pipeline of innovative games that will help to grow Singapore’s game industry. SUTD does this by pioneering an unique model of Game Research, Education, and Training that propels the Singapore game R&D landscape to new heights.

Research

SUTD is focusing on these areas of research:

(a) Massive Multiplayer Cloud Gaming on Mobile Devices,
(b) Gaming to Enhance Rehabilitation of Stroke Victims, and
(c) Futuristic Gaming.

Faculty from across the pillars at SUTD participates in these research projects. All research is conducted in collaboration with selected faculty from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and experts in the area of rehabilitation for stroke victims.

Education

SUTD has a tightly integrated training and education programme with 3 core components:

  1. Fifth Row
Training and Education through co-curricular activities such as clubs, Game Design research opportunities, and internships at local and overseas Game companies (e.g. through Zhejiang University exchange programme)
  2. Cross-Pillar Game Design Track
Specialisation track in Game Design offered to students across all pillars of study. This may include modules such as “Game Design Principles” and “Level Design for Games”, as well as the Game Development Course.

Training and Development

A key element of Project GREaT is the SUTD Game Lab. Established since October 2012, the Game Lab continues the work of the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab (GAMBIT) through its unique model of game experimentation, education, and training, strengthening partnerships with the game industry, and assisting SUTD in game-related fifth row activities, Independent Activity Period (IAP) and capstone project related activities.

SUTD Game Lab is supported by the National Research Foundation, Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore under its Game Research, Education and Training (GREaT) Funding Initiative.
