For the SSP, we are specially offering the UROP to our AY2020 incoming students before the start of term in September.

Students will pursue one UROP under the supervision of SUTD faculty. They will gain some basic research experience, skills and methodology while performing research under the guidance of SUTD faculty.

Upon successful completion of the UROP project, a UROP certificate will be issued to the students and the UROP project will be counted as part of their fifth row achievements.

FAQs

What is SSP?

Because the start of Term 1 has been moved from May 2020 to September 2020, the SSP is a series of summer programmes specially designed to allow newly matriculated students to take up to 2 credit-bearing modules, an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP) project and/or bridging courses starting in May 2020.

Do I get credits for taking modules under SSP?

Certain programmes are credit-bearing modules which are specially designed and have the same syllabus and rigour as the respective modules in the SUTD undergraduate curriculum. Should you pass the credit-bearing module(s) under SSP, you can earn advanced credits for your undergraduate study at SUTD.

What if I fail any of the credit-bearing subject (i.e., SS Math, SS Physics or HASS)?

You will not get any credit for the subjects you failed. As SS Math and SS Physics are foundation subjects, you will have to retake the respective modules when you are in Term 1. The “Policy on Grading and Academic Performance (for students admitted in AY2020 & onwards)” will be enforced from Term 1 (Sep 2020).

If you failed HASS, you may retake the same HASS module or take another HASS module in your upper year of study to fulfil the graduation requirement. The failed HASS grade(s) from the SSP and the grade of the retake(s) or replacement module(s) will be shown in the transcript and computed into the GPA.

A full-fledged SUTD student has to take 32 modules to meet the graduation requirements of a Bachelor degree.

Can I drop an SSP/SS ILP module?

Yes, you may drop an SSP/SS ILP module within the second week of the start of the class. Once you have dropped an SS ILP module, you will not be able to take up another SS ILP or SSP module. However, if you are a student under CA (ILP), it is compulsory for you to take both SS ILP Math/Physics and SS ILP Chemistry/Biology.

If I pass SS Math or SS Physics, do I need to take Design 2D project in Term 1?

Design 2D is a signature programme in SUTD where students get to experience how the multiple subjects in a term are related to each other. If you pass SS Math or SS Physics, although you are not required to take Modelling and Analysis or Physical World modules in term 1, you are required to participate in the Design 2D in Term 1. When you have successfully completed the Design 2D (not credit-bearing), it will be reflected in your transcript.

If I take a HASS module, will I be able to take a minor?

Yes, you can do a minor. However, note that there are specific HASS modules which are required by the minor(s) that you are interested in. If the HASS module(s) you have taken is not among those required by the minor that you choose at the end of Freshmore year, you will have to take an additional HASS modules during your upper years to fulfill the minor requirement. Find out more about minors.
