Best Paper Award at the 40th Annual AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-26)
We are pleased to share that Wayne Ng, Research Fellow I at the Aviation Studies Institute (ASI), has been awarded the Best Paper Award for his paper, “Terminal Airspace Optimisation with Environmental Considerations” at the Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Air Transportation (AI4AT).
Best Paper Award and Best Student Presentation Award at 2025 INFORMS Annual Meeting
ESD PhD alumnus Wayne Ng, current PhD student Marcus Koh and Assistant Prof Nuno Ribeiro were awarded by the Air Transportation Section at the INFORMS Annual Meeting.

The Aviation Studies Institute has been shortlisted for an industry award at the Air Traffic Management Awards 2023 for its work into resilience in ATM.
Best Student Presentation Award at 2023 INFORMS Annual Meeting
Wayne Ng has been recognised with the Best Student Presentation Award at the 2023 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix. Wayne presented his PhD research, which focuses on the development of optimisation algorithms for aircraft sequencing and scheduling in congested terminal airspace regions.
ASI shortlisted for CANSO ATM Award 2022
The Aviation Studies Institute has been shortlisted for the CANSO ATM Award 2022 for ‘Collaboration’, recognising the contribution of its work that identified the Benefits of Collaborative Actions in Regional Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) Ground Delay Programmes.
