Professor Yow Wei Quin, Head of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at SUTD, writes about recent studies challenging the notion that older adults are inherently less creative or innovative than their younger counterparts.

As individuals age, both their bodies and brains undergo changes. Certain brain regions shrink, and the communication between neurons becomes less efficient. According to Professor Yow Wei Quin from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), these structural and functional changes contribute to an age-related decline in cognitive function, affecting language, processing speed, memory, and planning abilities.

Singapore-headquartered EduTech startup Wefaa Robotics has recently raised undisclosed seed funding to expand its market, as well as deepen its research and product innovation. The investment, led by Zelos Megatrends Fund and SUTD Venture Holdings, will enable Wefaa to multiply its technological capabilities, strengthen the development team, and expand its product offerings. Wefaa will also invest in growing its customer base and establishing strategic partnerships to achieve sustainable success.

How older workers can add value to their companies

One of the important things to note when deciding which university to continue tertiary education with is the cost – take a look at the expenses tied to university degrees in Singapore.

A total of $60 million will be allocated to the National Robotics Programme (NRP) to advance robotic technologies and promote wider adoption across manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare sectors. This funding will specifically support the RoboCluster initiative, acting as a research and development (R&D) collaboration platform for NRP’s engagement with industries. The inaugural session will be held at SUTD in July.

SINGAPORE is partnering academic institutions and corporations such as Amazon Web Services and S&P Global Market Intelligence to improve its maritime industry’s digital capabilities and cybersecurity. Four memorandums of understanding (MOUs) were signed on Tuesday (Apr 16) between the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and such partners at Singapore Maritime Week.

Singapore’s first maritime network security test platform built by the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is expected to be completed next year. By then, this platform will allow maritime operators to simulate various cyber attacks and defense drills, thereby improving the security capabilities of different system softwares.

The solar system installation project was part of SUTD’s FACT programme in collaboration with HCLTech and Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta, led by Dr Lee Chee Huei and Dr Ching Chee Leong.
