Shape Modeling International 2025: Best Paper Award
Assistant Professor Peng Song and his co-authors have won the Best Paper Award at the Shape Modeling International (SMI) 2025. Two authors of the paper, SUTD PhD students Siqi Li and Haoyu Tang, are supervised by Asst Prof Peng Song.
The awarded paper, Conformable mechanisms on freeform surfaces, introduces a new class of linkage mechanisms, called conformable mechanisms, whose joints and links conform to a freeform surface in one of its configurations. The paper proposes an optimisation-based approach to designing conformable mechanisms and demonstrates the usefulness of these mechanisms with three applications.
Shape Modeling International 2025 is an international conference on modelling, simulating and processing digital representations of shapes. The conference was held in Hangzhou, China, on 29 October to 2 November. All accepted papers of the conference are published as a special issue of the Computers & Graphics Journal, Elsevier.
