Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum – SUTD Scholarship
The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum – SUTD Scholarship is established to promote meritocratic access to education and provide opportunities to students, including those with demonstrated financial need.
Eligibility
- Singapore Citizens
- Full-time undergraduates who are in their freshmore or sophomore year and intending to enrol in or are enrolled in the Computer Science and Design (CSD) programme at the University
- Have good academic standing
- Have good moral character and communtiy spirit
- Have demonstrated financial need with monthly Per Capita Income of S$2,500 and below/ Demonstrated financial need with monthly Per Capita Income of S$2,500 and below, or the prevailing upper limit for monthly household Per Capita Income as specified by the Ministry of Education for the eligibility criteria for the Higher Education Bursary
Benefits of award
- The Scholarship is valued at S$15,750 per academic year for up to 1 academic year, and shall be applied towards the payment of tuition fees and study-related expenses.
- There is no bond to be fulfilled towards the donor.
- Successful recipients may write to Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) or Metta Welfare Association for internship placements though they have no obligation to offer or accept internships.
Terms & conditions
- The recipient may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.
- If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.
- The recipient is required to achieve and maintain good academic standing. Academic performance will be reviewed every term. The Scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of SUTD, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.
- The recipient must have taken up the Tuition Grant Scheme by the Singapore Government during enrolment. Read more on the Tuition Grant Scheme here.
Application procedure
- Interested incoming students should apply for the Scholarship when applying for admission to SUTD.
- Existing students who are eligible will be invited to apply via MyPortal.
- Shortlisted applicants will be notified in due course.
- Late and incomplete submissions will not be processed.
- Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.
- SUTD reserves the right not to award any Scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.

The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum (BTRTM) was founded in 2002 by Venerable Shi Fa Zhao. It was registered with the Registrar of Societies on 20th February 2003, and as a charity under the Charities Act on 8th January 2004.
The Temple is dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha, which means ‘The Compassionate One’, and also called ‘The Future Buddha’.
In accordance with The Great Compassionate Vows of The Maitreya Buddha, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum (BTRTM) seeks to be the best Buddhist cultural complex in the region and to promote and impart the Teachings of Lord Buddha.
