Piak Boon Pin – SUTD Scholarship

The Piak Boon Pin – SUTD Scholarship is established to promote meritocratic access to education and provide opportunities to deserving students.
Eligibility
  • All nationalities
  • Full-time first-year undergraduate student enrolled at the University, with preference given to students who demonstrate interest or involvement in engineering, design, or built-environment-related domains
  • Demonstrated passion in the area of sustainability
  • Has good academic standing
  • Possesses leadership potential, good moral character and community spirit
Benefits of award
  • The Scholarship is valued at up to S$70,000 and tenable for 4 academic years.
  • Up to $60,000 will be applied towards the recipient’s annual subsidised tuition fees (after Tuition Grant), and up to S$10,000 will be applied towards the recipient’s sustainability trips and research projects at the University.
  • There is no bond to be fulfilled towards the donor.
Terms & conditions
  1. The recipient may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.
  2. If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.
  3. The recipient is required to achieve and maintain good academic standing. Academic performance will be reviewed every term. The Scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of SUTD, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.
  4. The recipient must have taken up the Tuition Grant Scheme by the Singapore Government during enrolment. Read more on the Tuition Grant Scheme here.
  5. Recipients are required to complete at least 20 hours of service to the University. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.
Application procedure
  1. Interested incoming students should apply for the Scholarship when applying for admission to SUTD.
  2. Shortlisted applicants will be notified in due course.
  3. Late and incomplete submissions will not be processed.
  4. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.
  5. SUTD reserves the right not to award any Scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.

A humble, kind, and hardworking leader, he believed in leading with integrity, perseverance, and compassion. He led by example and earned the respect of those around him through his humility, fairness, and genuine care for others. Under his leadership, Rico Engineering Works grew to become the leading fire protection company in Singapore today

 

This scholarship was established in his memory to honour the life he lived and the values he stood for. As someone who believed in hard work, honesty, and creating opportunities for others, we hope this scholarship will inspire and support future students at the Singapore University of Technology and Design’s School of Sustainability. More importantly, it is a way for his legacy to live on by helping future generations learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact on society.
