Biography
Pai Chong Ying is an architect. He studied at the University of Michigan and Harvard University, where he defended his Master in Architecture thesis under the tutelage of Iñaki Ábalos.
Together with Emerald Wu, Chong Ying co-directs Atelier of spatial matters, a practice based in Singapore. The work of Aosm confronts the complexities and urgencies of our contemporary world—climate resiliency, cultural memory, and inclusivity, among other concerns stemming from each project’s specific context—by inventing new forms of civic and domestic spaces. Since its founding in 2020, Aosm has quickly garnered international recognition, including top prizes in competitions for cultural institutions.
Prior to founding Aosm, Chong Ying practiced at OMA in Rotterdam and New York; SOM in New York; and Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo; with a stint in design consulting at IDEO in Palo Alto, California. He is a registered Architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and an Architect member of the American Institute of Architects.
