The DBS — SUTD Distinguished Scholarship is established to promote meritocratic access to education and provide opportunities to students, including those with demonstrated financial need.


The Scholarship is open to Singapore Citzens or Singapore Permanent Residents who

  • are full-time first year undergraduate students intending to enrol in the Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) programme at the University

  • have good academic standing

  • possess leadership potential, good moral character and community spirit; and

  • demonstrated financial need with monthly household per capita income of S$2,250 and below or the prevailing upper limit for monthly household per capita income as specified by the Ministry of Education for the eligibility criteria for the Higher Education Bursary (for Singapore Citizens).


  • The Scholarship is valued at S$25,000 per Academic Year and is tenable for up to four Academic Years.

  • The Scholarship shall be applied towards the recipients' subsidised tuition fees (after Tuition Grant), hostel fees and other study-related expenses.

  • No bond is required under the terms of this Scholarship.

  • The recipient must take up the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) from the Singapore Government to enjoy subsidised fees. Under the TGS, non-Singaporeans will be obligated to work in Singapore for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.


  • The recipient is required to achieve and maintain good academic standing. Academic performance will be reviewed every term. 

  • Recipients are required to complete at least 20 hours of service to the University. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.

  • Recipients may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.

  • The scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the University, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.

  • If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.


  • Late and incomplete submissions will not be processed.

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.

  • SUTD reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
