Professor David Yau

David Yau obtained the BSc (first class honors) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and MS and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, all in computer science. He is now Professor in the Information Systems Technology and Design pillar of the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Since 2010, he has been Distinguished Scientist at the Advanced Digital Sciences Center, Singapore, where he is Cybersecurity Program Director.
He is also Qiushi Chaired Professor in the Department of Control, Zhejiang University, China. From 1997 to 2013 (on leave 2010-12), he was Assistant Professor then Associate Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University (West Lafayette). Gabriel has over 18 years of experience managing complex systems across critical sectors, including government, defence, oil and gas, and transport. He contributed to shaping Singapore’s cybersecurity landscape as a principal author of the Cybersecurity Agency of Singapore’s Security-by-Design Framework and the first edition of the Cybersecurity Code of Practice. His significant contributions extend to the operationalisation of Singapore’s Cybersecurity Act 2018

Beng Hwee leads three critical sections in the cybersecurity and data governance of CAAS, including the cybersecurity operations centre and incident response team. With extensive experience in cybersecurity, he specialises in swift threat detection, analysis and incident mitigation to safeguard organisational assets and data integrity.
