Manufacturing, Assembly and Design

Integration of materials science, design, and manufacturing processes (the materials-processes-properties triangle). The course will emphasize the physics and stochastic nature of manufacturing processes and systems, and their effects on quality, rate, cost, and flexibility. Topics include material characterization, materials selection methods, manufacturing systems and process selection, dimensioning/tolerancing implications on manufacturing, DFMA and Product Architecture considerations.
