Sustainabiity: Science and Systems Thinking (From AY2026)
This course focuses on the importance of sustainable development by raising awareness of climate change and the human impact on the environment. Based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the course explores issues and challenges related to sustainability across four key areas: material selection, clean water, sustainable energy, and biodiversity. Emphasis is placed on applying systems thinking—understanding the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and technological systems—to design holistic and effective solutions.
Students will gain insights into science and engineering approaches that drive sustainability, while developing critical thinking skills to analyse strategies grounded in scientific evidence and emerging technologies. This course further aims to enhance students’ ability to apply systems thinking in addressing complex global sustainability challenges.
