Minor in Healthcare Informatics
Overview
The University Minor in Healthcare Informatics (HI) provides the breadth of learning in health informatics for students to gain a competitive advantage in a healthcare setting, and allows students to extend their interests in MedTech, healthcare systems and its relevant technologies as well as data science.

- 50.007 Machine Learning (offered by ISTD) or 40.319 Statistical and Machine Learning (offered by ESD)

Planning for minor study
- Students interested in pursuing a minor or minors are required to meet an academic advisor to formulate a study plan. Students who are deemed to be unable to complete the coursework by Term 8 should not embark on a minor programme. Subsequently, students are required to track their own progress towards completing the minor programme(s) as per the study plan formulated.
- Enrolment into all courses is subject to availability.
- The minor will be accorded upon successful completion of the required subjects by Term 8. No extension beyond Term 8 is allowed.
- Both the major and minor requirements must be completed within the normal candidature of the undergraduate programme, i.e. 8 terms.
Eligibility
- Students need to pass all twelve (12) Freshmore subjects at the point of declaring their intention to pursue a minor.
- Students who are deemed to be unable to complete the coursework by Term 8 will not be allowed to pursue the minor.
Declaration and withdrawal
- Students must formally declare their intention to enrol in the Minor in Healthcare Informatics during the following declaration periods via MyPortal. Students should note that the add/drop period and related policies apply to minor-related and additional fifth subject(s) (if any).
Cohort Declaration period 2024 and onwards 2 weeks before start of Term 5 AY2023 In Week 3 of Term 8 AY2022 2 weeks before Term 4 - Students who declared earlier but decide not to continue pursuing the minor programme(s), or decide to pursue a different minor, are required to formally inform (in writing) OSA and the pillars/clusters involved. Only requests before the end of Term 5’s add/drop period* will be entertained and such requests will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. (*Not applicable for students from the AY2023 cohort.)
- Should the student not complete or withdraw from the minor programme, the student’s pillar/cluster may, at its sole discretion, allow the additional fifth subject(s) (if any) successfully completed in the previous term(s) for the discontinued minor to be counted towards the major requirements. Grades earned to complete a minor shall still be computed towards the GPA after the student’s withdrawal.
Grading requirements
- Students must complete all required courses.
- Subjects taken to complete the minor shall be graded and computed into the GPA.
- Unless a minimum passing grade is stated by EPD, the minimum passing grade shall be a D. Non-letter grading options cannot be used for the minor.
- Credits from successfully completed academic units from external institutions can be recognised towards fulfilling the minor requirements upon approval from EPD.
