Beyond SQL: Modern database architectures for AI-native applications on AWS

EVENT DATE
3 August 2026
TIME
1:00 pm 2:30 pm
LOCATION
SUTD Lecture Theatre 2 (Building 1, Level 3, Room 1.318)

As applications evolve from traditional CRUD systems to Al-native workloads, database architectures must evolve with them. This session covers best practices for choosing between RDBMS and NoSQL databases in real-world industry scenarios on AWS, introduces state-of-the-art storage services – including Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, Amazon OpenSearch, and purpose-built vector databases like Amazon OpenSearch Serverless with vector engine for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) – and explores novel techniques for indexing and query optimisation at scale. Attendees will gain practical insights into when to use relational vs. non-relational vs. vector stores, how to design schemas for Al workloads, and how AWS managed database services reduce operational overhead while maximising performance.
