Towards scalable relational database applications
Abstract
Traditional relational database management systems (RDBMS) have drawn criticism for their inherent complexity and comparatively limited scalability, in contrast to NoSQL database systems. Nevertheless, RDMBS still play a vital role in modern computing applications, particularly in online transactional processing (OLTP) scenarios.
How can we improve scalability while maintaining most of the capabilities of RDBMS? In this guest lecture, we will discuss some of the technical challenges and industry practices towards scalable relational database application.
