Graduate
Master of Science in Urban Science, Policy and Planning (MUSPP)
We have introduced students to the collaborative use of AI within courses in the MUSPP programme. Students have developed custom GPTs relating to research methods for use to support their work.
In line with SUTD’s belief that AI is a partner and not just a tool, we see no-code Gen AI as a way to shift the emphasis of smart nation from smart tech to smart citizens. Students explore, while gaining a deep understanding of, the power and perils of AI.
Undergraduate
Bachelor of Science (Design and Artificial Intelligence)
In 2020, SUTD became the first university in the world to introduce a Design AI degree.
Graduate from the DAI programme will be well versed in AI application – not in the writing of codes. They embed AI into their solutions and apply AI in their design, from product design, service design and systems design to the designed-built environment.
DAI Fab Lab
SUTD’s flagship Fabrication Laboratory (Fab Lab) is known as our signature state-of-the-art facility that allows students to design and build virtually “almost anything” with high-performance machines.
Branching off this, the DAI Fab Lab is a newly established facility dedicated to Design AI objectives for students and faculty to explore, experiment, and shape the future of innovation.
A strong foundation: 03.007 Design Thinking and Innovation
Design Thinking and Innovation is a foundational design course developed as part of the mandatory curriculum for all SUTD Freshmore (first-year) students.
It introduces the concepts of design at a variety of scales and through multiple perspectives. Students are exposed to core technology and design themes including principles, design processes, modes of thinking and analysis, and social and cultural aspects of design.
Design AI in student works
The Design AI Awards were introduced for our annual Capstone Design Project Showcase, for the first time in 2025, to give recognition to outstanding innovations that incorporate Design AI.
The Capstone design projects are final-year projects from our graduating cohort, who work in interdisciplinary groups of 5-7 students to tackle real-world industry problems.
