The students from the Human-centred Design Master’s program, along with several SUTD undergraduates, were excited to have the chance to visit ShopBack’s headquarters in Singapore. As one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the Asia-Pacific region, ShopBack has become a go-to platform for shopping, cashback, and payments—well loved by both young consumers and brand partners.

Our visit kicked off with a warm welcome from Janet Chen from the Talent Acquisition team, who gave us an insightful introduction to ShopBack, covering its growth journey since 2014, business model, and key product features. Angelica Dilidili from the Product Design team shared how the company puts user experience at the heart of everything they design, encouraging users to keep coming back and helping build a vibrant, mutually beneficial ecosystem between users and merchants. Natalie Ho from the Product Management team gave us a look into their fast-paced, innovation-driven workflow – showing how the team rapidly tests, learns, and improves products to meet evolving user needs.

Led by Jayson Ng and Tiffany Chin, students also toured ShopBack’s lively office space and learned more about the company’s journey – from its beginnings in 2014 to its expansion into Thailand, Taiwan, Australia, Germany, and beyond.

At the HCD Program, we believe strongly in connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences. Visits like this give our HCD students a chance to see how design, product thinking, and company culture come together in practice – and help them build the skills and insight they need to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.
