The School of Science and Technology (SST) and SUTD collaborate annually to offer secondary students an ethics lecture series. The idea is for STEM students to think about the social impact of their work. This year, Assistant Professor Setsuko Yokoyama worked with SST subject teachers and developed a lesson on the “ethics of care,” specifically tailored for students specializing in biotechnology, design studies, electronics, and computing. With support from SUTD Master’s students as their fellow ethics of care practitioners, SST students are thinking and reimagining better and kinder human relationships in the context of cultured meat production, e-waste management, and the development of Singlish speech recognition technology.
