What is SUTD?

SUTD, or the Singapore University of Technology and Design, is Singapore’s fourth autonomous university and the world’s first Design AI University. SUTD’s unique educational approach combines technology, design, and innovation to empower students to solve real-world problems and create meaningful impact. Recognised globally for its interdisciplinary and hands-on learning model, SUTD is currently ranked 3rd among Singapore universities in the QS World University Rankings 2027.


Will the programme be conducted in Bahasa Indonesia?

The programme will be conducted in English. Participants are expected to have a basic level of English proficiency to fully benefit from the workshops, discussions, and hands-on activities.


What are the prerequisites?

The programme is intended for Grade 8-9 students and has no prior coding, AI, or technical prerequisites. Participants will be introduced to Design Thinking, Applied AI, and prototyping through hands-on activities and guided project work, making it suitable for beginners.


Is the programme recognised?

The programme is developed by SUTD with the purpose of empowering young minds. In Singapore (branded as Steamunity), over 1,300 students from more than 60 schools participated with more than 60 prototypes created for community partners. While it is not an accredited academic qualification, it is a recognised programme with a strong track record in innovation and STEM education.  The output from the programme is useful as portfolio for the latter stages of University applications.


Will students receive a certificate?

Yes. Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Certificate of Completion (CoC) by SUTD Academy.


Will attending STEM-Unity give students early admission to SUTD?

STEM-Unity provides students with valuable exposure to SUTD’s unique approach to innovation, technology, and design. Participation in the programme can strengthen a student’s portfolio and showcase qualities such as creativity, problem-solving, and leadership, which may be beneficial when applying to SUTD in the future.


What scholarships will be available?

Participation in STEM-Unity can be a valuable addition to a student’s portfolio, showcasing skills in innovation, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership. For students considering SUTD in the future, the programme may strengthen their overall profile and complement other achievements considered in scholarship and admissions assessments.


What happens after STEM-Unity?

STEM-Unity is the first step in a broader innovation and learning journey. Participants will gain access to information on subsequent exciting opportunities from SUTD Academy, including advanced programmes, innovation challenges, and enrichment experiences that can help strengthen their portfolios for future university and scholarship applications to SUTD. We encourage students to join the programme and stay tuned to learn more about these exclusive opportunities throughout their STEM-Unity journey.


Can students visit Singapore for a showcase?

Selected teams may be invited to attend a special showcase in Singapore to present their projects and experience SUTD’s innovation environment. Invitations will be extended to shortlisted teams, and participation will be on a self-funded basis unless otherwise specified.


What is the winning prize?

Teams will have the opportunity to compete for prizes during the Final Showcase. Further details on the prizes and award categories will be announced after the programme kick-off.
