Research Fellow on Human–AI Collaboration at Work
About us:
The Future of Innovation Lab at the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC), Singapore University of Technology and Design, explores how emerging technologies such as (generative) AI are transforming the nature of work, expertise, and collaboration.
We are looking for a full-time Research Fellow with strong qualitative research skills and a keen interest in Human-AI collaboration to join our interdisciplinary research team. This role will contribute to a research project on the evolving dynamics of workplace expertise and human-machine teaming. Moreover, the consequences of such digital transformation are explored in the context of workforce and labor developments, organisational innovation, and learning/education.
About the position:
This position is ideal for someone who is excited about in-depth qualitative research and enjoys working closely with organisations and agencies to understand complex work practices. The Research Fellow will:
- Conduct and analyse qualitative research (interviews, focus groups, observations, surveys) with professionals in organisations
- Lead and assist in designing research protocols and data collection instruments
- Work with companies and organisational partners to set up, schedule, and conduct research engagements
- Write literature reviews and assist in theoretical development around Human-AI collaboration
- Collaborate on writing academic papers, reports, and white papers
- Communicate research findings to public and private stakeholders
- Support developments in Human-AI collaboration within the university
The Centre may, at its discretion, assign additional responsibilities from time to time, such as teaching or other duties aligned with the Centre’s needs, without adjusting your appointment grade or title.
Requirements:
Must-have:
- A PhD in fields related to work, organisations, labour studies, business, or sociology
- Demonstrated experience with qualitative research methods, including observations and/or in-depth ethnographic fieldwork
- Interest in or familiarity with generative AI and its implications for work and expertise
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Strong organisational and data management skills
- Interest in working in an interdisciplinary team, including sociologists, economists, algorithm engineers, and educational specialists
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in industry or applied research settings
- Familiarity with workplace-based or ethnographic research
- Exposure to survey design and basic mixed methods

(Senior) Research Assistant on Human–AI Collaboration at Work

We are hiring a Research Assistant or Senior Research Assistant to support a research project focused on Human-AI collaboration at work. This is an ideal role for someone with strong qualitative research skills and an interest in organisational change and innovation.
About the position:
As Research Assistant, you will be part of an interdisciplinary, dynamic team conducting empirical research with professionals across various industries. You will:
- Support or lead data collection activities (interviews, focus groups, observations, surveys)
- Assist in designing instruments and protocols
- Help liaise with company stakeholders to coordinate research engagements
- Contribute to literature reviews, data analysis, and writing reports and papers
- Engage in project logistics, documentation, and communication

Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with organisational fieldwork or workplace ethnography

Research Fellow (Urban Psychology Lab)
The Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities at the Singapore University of Technology and Design is seeking a full-time Research Fellow, to join a growing research team dedicated to understanding human behavior in cities.
Successful applicants will contribute to a research program that explores the intersection of human behavior, urban design, technology, and livability. The program tackles critical questions about how cities shape people’s behaviors and, in turn, how cities should be designed to better serve their inhabitants. Upcoming projects in the lab include the study of public perception and behaviours in public spaces, nature-connectedness and health in cities, and mobility and health in cities.
Candidates should possess a strong interest in applying a human lens to transdisciplinary and collaborative research. Expertise in quantitative research methods, experience working with Virtual Reality, physiological and/or neurological measures, and a background in applied social and/or behavioral science will be a plus.
The candidate will be expected to:
- Lead or co-lead projects in the lab
- Design and implement quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research, including experimental and field studies
- Develop and validate instruments for psychological and behavioural assessment in urban settings
- Conduct data analysis using relevant statistical, spatial, or computational tools with quantitative and/or qualitative data
- Prepare journal manuscripts and technical reports for publication
- Engage with external partners including government agencies, NGOs, and community group
- Contribute to identifying new research opportunities and assist in the preparation of research grant proposals

Skills and qualifications required:
- Obtained or expected PhD related to the social sciences or behavioural sciences (e.g., Psychology, Behavioral Economics, Human Geography, Public Health or related disciplines)
- Demonstrable skills in quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., R, Stata, Python, NVivo, GIS)
- Experience with interdisciplinary or community-based research is a plus

Senior Research Fellow
The Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities at the Singapore University of Technology and Design seeks applications for a full-time research position at the rank of Senior Research Fellow or above. Candidates who have a background in urban planning and/or research expertise in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- socio-urban sustainability, particularly in the evaluation, monitoring and promotion of sustainability in the Asian context
- urban health policy and the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases through human-centric technologies
- human dimensions and policy implications of innovative urban technologies
The Centre may, at its discretion, assign additional responsibilities from time to time, such as teaching or other duties aligned with the Centre’s needs, without adjusting your appointment grade or title.
Candidates should have a at least five years of post-doctoral publication track record and a professional history of receiving and managing competitive grants. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research agenda and mentor junior research staff. Remuneration will be internationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
