As AI reshapes workplace demands, digital and AI capabilities are increasingly regarded as essential skills. However, proficiency in specific AI tools may quickly become outdated. Workers should therefore focus on enduring capabilities such as defining problems, evaluating AI outputs, managing data, understanding risks, protecting privacy, designing workflows and applying AI within their industries. They should also strengthen transferable skills such as analytical thinking, communication, creativity and ethical judgment, while using AI to automate repetitive tasks and focusing their efforts on judgment, decision-making and problem-solving.

SUTD Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Design & AI Officer Poon King Wang said that, as AI becomes increasingly accessible, simply knowing how to use it is no longer enough to provide a lasting advantage. Workers must shift from being “AI users” to “AI creators” who harness the technology to generate distinctive value. The report also highlights more than 1,600 AI-related courses available through MySkillsFuture, along with NTUC’s AI-Ready SG initiative and its four-stage learning pathway covering foundational, applied, proficient and specialised skills.
