Dr Rui Cao is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). She received her PhD from Singapore Management University, and was previously a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge. Her research lies at the intersection of language and vision, with a focus on developing AI models that are beneficial and reliable for human use. In particular, she studies how to enhance foundation models in terms of interpretability, compositionality, trustworthiness and safety, when interacting with multimodal data. She has published in leading artificial intelligence venues, including NeurIPS, ACL, EMNLP, ACM MM, WWW, IJCAI and TCSVT. She has also delivered public research tutorials and organised multiple workshops and shared tasks at top-tier international conferences.
