Criteria for admission

There is one intake for the MTD (Optics and Photonics) programme each year in September.

 

Applicants should possess the following:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in a closely related discipline including Engineering (Electronics, Optoelectronics, Materials), Physics, and Materials Science;
  • Foundational knowledge in the following would be advantageous but not necessary:
    • Electromagnetics and wave optics
    • Linear algebra and calculus
    • Basic programming (e.g. Python or MATLAB)
  • Laboratory experience in optics, electronics, or nanofabrication is advantageous;
  • Students whose language of instruction during undergraduate study is not English are required to present TOEFL-iBT (min. 85) or IELTS Academic (min. 6.0) score report;
  • Interested candidates with undergraduate degrees in an unrelated discipline may be considered on a case-by-case basis*;
  • Related job experiences will be considered for admission.

Note: TOEFL / IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date and should not have expired at the point of application. Expired scores will not be considered for the application.
* Applicants without a relevant degree can submit a resumé or portfolio highlighting your skills, abilities and experiences to augment your application.

 

All applications will be reviewed by the MTD admissions committee and their decision will be final.

Documents to submit

The online application takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete. You will need the following documents (in PDF format) / information to complete the application process:

  • NRIC (front and back) or Passport (info page)
  • Bachelor’s degree and academic transcript
  • Acceptable English Proficiency score report (if applicable)
  • Names, email addresses and institutions/organisations of two referees
  • Statement of Objectives / Personal Statement (not less than 500 words)
  • CV
Application fees

All applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of S$21.80 (inclusive of prevailing Goods & Services Tax).
