Guide for students
1. I want to apply as a UROPer
Whether you are new or a hardcore research fan, UROP welcomes you! Look out for our email invitation and apply.
- UROP student application opens in Week 11.
- OutboundiUROP and inbound iUROP will have different application windows.

2. I want to initiate a project
Students can initiate projects and conduct their own research under the guidance of a faculty. Students are to source for a faculty to be their project supervisor, and the faculty can submit the proposal during the Call for Proposal period.
Successful UROP proposals will be supported with a S$1,500 funding for materials and consumables according to the UROP Funding Guidelines
As a start, your proposal should include the following elements:
- Project title, scope(s) and objectives: Outline the ideation, the process, and the goals of the project.
- Nature of work: Describe the investigative, data collection, trial & test hypothesis, or technical writing aspect of the proposed project.
- Budget breakdown: Outline the estimated breakdown cost of the project and funding sources.
- Number of student participants required
- Task and responsibilities of student participants
Note: The maximum duration of a UROP project is 2 terms.
3. I want to submit a UROP claim
Students will submit their UROP claims via Concur. Please refer to the detailed user guide here.
Mandatory documents required for claim submission:
- Scanned copies of original receipts/invoices/bank transactions
- UROP supervisor’s approval email

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I am accepted into IROP?
Students will receive an email one week before new term starts. Otherwise, drop us an email at irop@sutd.edu.sg.
I am working on a project but cannot complete within 1 term. What should I do?
You will have to discuss with your supervisor who will then submit a request for project extension to the IROP office. Please note that the maximum duration allowed for an IROP project is 2 terms.
How do I know if I am eligible for an IROP certificate?
At the end of your IROP, you will be evaluated by your project supervisor. If your work is deemed satisfactory, your supervisor will recommend you for an IROP certificate. An email will be sent to you with your e-certificate. Participation will also be recorded in your Fifth Row transcript.
Where can students view the list of projects available?
Projects are available online via MyPortal during the student application period.
Can students participate in IROP more than once?
Yes you can. However, priority will be given to first-time IROPers.
