$16,000 prize for S’pore-developed AI assistant that carries out tasks for visually impaired users
Sunday, an AI assistant developed by a team led by SUTD’s Rajaselvam Kalyanaraman alongside fellow students Kunalkumar Senthilkumar and Pravin R, and Devadharshini Kumar, won Huawei’s Tech4City top prize for helping visually impaired users carry out smartphone tasks through voice commands.

Automation is taking on labour-intensive tasks such as grouting, painting and cleaning, reducing workers’ exposure to hazards. Robots such as Dragonfly, a mosquito trapping robot, sTetro, a staircase cleaning robot and Mantis, a modular window facade cleaning, all developed by Professor Mohan Elara and his team, were featured.
Single-actuator drone modeled on maple seeds flies with 43.5% less error, study finds
SUTD researchers have developed a control method that allows a robot that flies with one actuator anticipates its next movements. The approach was demonstrated on SAM, short for Samara-Seed Inspired Single-Actuator Monocoptor. This project was led by Professor Foong Shaohui.
3D food printing of balanced vegetarian dishes from rice and lentil flours
An SUTD research team studied the possibility of using white rice and red lentil flours for 3D food printing. Lead author research associate Aakanksha Pant and PhD student, Phoebe Leam Xin Ni, were also quoted in the article. This research was led by Professor Chua Chee Kai and Associate Professor Tan U-Xuan.
