National Robotics Programme receiving $60m to help spur robot adoption in industry
A total of $60 million will be allocated to the National Robotics Programme (NRP) to advance robotic technologies and promote wider adoption across manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare sectors. This funding will specifically support the RoboCluster initiative, acting as a research and development (R&D) collaboration platform for NRP’s engagement with industries. The inaugural session will be held at SUTD in July.
Robots in pest control: Spotting rats, repelling snakes
The shoebox-size, radio-controlled bots are fitted with cameras on each end to stream footage from dark and cramped spaces.
SUTD launches drone for safer, more efficient viaduct inspection
Associate Professor Foong Shaohui came up with the idea in 2019 when chatting with Land Transport Authority (LTA) officers who told him of the difficulty in inspecting viaduct bearings for wear and tear, or defects.
How to Make 3D-Printed Parts Shrink with Precision
Finding a way to ensure uniform shrinkage of features below the wavelength of visible light is a challenge for two-photon polymerization lithography (TPL). A team of engineers from SUTD and the Industrial Technology Center of Wakayama Prefecture in Japan have introduced a new method for ensuring even shrinkage in 3D-printed structures under heat treatment.
Quick and easy method tests antimicrobial susceptibility
In the paper titled ‘Rapid and accurate antimicrobial susceptibility testing using label-free electrical impedance-based microfluidic platform’, Assoc Prof Ye Ai and his team successfully developed an electrical impedance-based microfluidic platform that provides rapid and accurate AMR evaluation within an hour.
Schools testing Singapore-made transformer robots to help teach robotics
SUTD is piloting the use of a reconfigurable robot called “Smorphi” in Northland Primary School to get students excited about robotics. If it goes well, the technology could become part of robotics curriculum elsewhere.
Locally manufactured cleaning robots want to go global
Dr Mohan Rajesh Elara is an associate professor at SUTD. He has been studying the construction of intelligent cleaning robots. When he approached the entrepreneurial husband-and-wife team, he found that they had a like-minded vision for building cleaning robots locally.
Robots that can travel, fly and conduct rescue missions in disaster areas; Lakeside Primary School received the championship
The inaugural Robotics for a Better World Challenge was held on 23 August 23 at Rulang Primary School. With the theme ‘Disaster Relief’, the competition attracted about 130 students from eight primary schools and three secondary schools in the Western District.
