Human-Centred Design Minor

(available from August 2025)

What is Human-Centred Design?

Human-Centred Design (HCD) is a rapidly growing professional field that adapts methods from the humanities and social sciences (such as ethnography, behavioural science, cognitive psychology, etc.) to improve how users interact with technology products.

The HASS-led Minor in Human-Centred Design draws on the unique expertise of SUTD’s HASS Cluster and the broader SUTD campus to complement engineering and design training with human-centred research methods, business management acumen, and AI-driven human-computer interaction.

The HCD Mission

To educate future technologists, designers and engineers who wish to:

  • explore interdisciplinary work environments that demand collaboration between engineers, designers, and users
  • enlist methods to conduct user research and to apply findings from user research to technological design
  • apply ethical and epistemological training to design for human-technology interaction, including AI technologies
