The overarching objective of this project is to enable ageing in place through the development and application of broad age-friendly planning guidelines and context-specific urban design strategies. The project encompasses two consecutive phases of translational research, each with specific aims and outputs. Phase 1 is the primary research phase that aims to: a) investigate and unpack the complex relationships between physical, built environment and health in later life through application of robust research methods at three study neighbourhoods; and use empirical evidence to develop age-friendly planning and design guidelines for neighbourhood implementation. Phase 2 aims to move the research into real-world practice, applying the evidence-based guidelines from Phase 1 to develop three preliminary, context-specific, age-friendly neighbourhood design strategies and interventions as well as a post-implementation evaluation toolkit. Co-design is a constitutive element to help ensure that project results meet end-user needs and are useable in Singapore neighbourhoods and towns (existing and future).
