PhD Singapore Universities Student Exchange Programme (SUSEP)
The PhD Singapore Universities Student Exchange Programme (SUSEP) is a unique collaboration between four top universities in Singapore:
- National University of Singapore (NUS)
- Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
- Singapore Management University (SMU)
- Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)
This programme offers PhD students the opportunity to access a diverse range of postgraduate research courses across all four institutions, enriching your academic experience and expanding research possibilities.
Programme highlights
- Enrol in courses* offered by partner universities
- Earn academic credits upon successful course completion
- Request credit transfer with home institution approval
- Benefit from a wider network of academic mentors and peers
* Note: The deadline to withdraw from a course without penalty is before the end of Week 2 of the term.
Inbound students (NUS, NTU, SMU → SUTD)
Students from NUS, NTU, or SMU interested in taking SUTD courses must:
- Consult your PhD advisors before course registration
- Obtain official approval from your home institution
- Ensure no schedule conflicts with your current coursework

Outbound students (SUTD → NUS, NTU, SMU)
SUTD students wishing to take courses at NUS, NTU, or SMU must:
- Consult with your PhD advisors
- Secure approval from your PhD supervisor
- Ensure course schedules do not conflict with SUTD classes

Frequently asked questions
What are the eligibility criteria or admission requirements for the PhD / EngD programme?
Applicants should have:
- At least a bachelor’s degree or above with excellent academic standing
- Proficiency in English with a minimum score of
- 90 for TOEFL (internet-based); or
- 6.5 for IELTS
- This is waived if the language of the medium in your institution is English
- Strong research interest
