Minors and Specialisation Tracks

At SUTD, we believe in giving our students the flexibility for different pathways and that one-size does not fit all. Students can customise your curriculum to suit your interests and aspirations through the selection of elective courses and Specialisation Tracks. You may also pursue a Minor to equip yourself with additional knowledge beyond your choice of Major.

A minor programme is a coherent course of study in an additional area outside of the Major. It contributes to your breadth of learning and may allow you to gain a competitive advantage in the workplace by being conversant in topics beyond your major. A Minor consists of a collection of 5 subjects required by the department offering the Minor, 2 of which may be cross-listed as meeting the Major requirements while the remaining 3 may be taken as technical electives.

Undergraduate students taking up an engineering Major (CSD, EPD or ESD; students taking DAI are able to choose from a restricted list of Minors) will have the opportunity to select a Minor on top of the Major. You get to indicate your preferred Minor after you have selected your Major at the end of Term 3. Both the Major and Minor requirements must be completed within the normal candidature of the undergraduate programme, i.e. 8 terms.

Analytics / Engineering Systems (ES)

For students enrolled from AY2022 onwards

Minor in Analytics

  • Enables students to gain expertise in the current tools of data analytics in engineering systems
  • Equips students with both technical depth in their chosen discipline and exposure to data-driven decision-making

For students enrolled before AY2022:

  • Equips students with knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems using AI technology.
Computer Science (CS)

Minor in Computer Science (CS)

  • Equips students with technical depth in either Engineering Product Development (EPD) or Engineering Systems and Design (ESD), and exposure to mathematical grounding and algorithmic thinking.
  • Meets current and future industry needs for engineers who possess technical expertise in their chosen discipline and ability to design solutions for challenging problems that require computing as a core element.
Design Innovation, Ventures and Entrepreneurship (DIVE)

Minor in Design Innovation, Ventures and Entrepreneurship (DIVE)

  • Educates students in systematic design innovation and entrepreneurship theory and applications.
  • Enhances students’ expertise with knowledge, skills and strategies to solve real-world problems and generate ideas that may lead to their own technology-based start-ups.
Design, Technology and Society (DTS)

Minor in Design, Technology and Society (DTS)

  • Analyses the social dimensions of design processes and projects critically.
  • Educates future design practitioners who are interested in analysing the wider social impacts of their design and engineering work.

  • Acquires three main skills (archiving, analysis, visualisation) to enhance their core work in the arts and humanities, centered on interpretation, reasoning and communication.
Engineering Product (EP)

Minor in Engineering Product (EP)

  • Enables students to combine technical depth in their chosen engineering discipline with skills and fundamentals required in the development of new products, processes and methodologies.
  • Fulfils industry needs for engineers that possess technical depth in their own discipline and product development capabilities.
Healthcare Informatics (HI)

Minor in Healthcare Informatics

  • Provides the breadth of learning in health informatics for students to gain a competitive advantage in a healthcare setting
  • Allows students to extend their interests in MedTech, healthcare systems and technologies as well as data science
Sustainability by Design

Minor in Sustainability by Design

  • Equips students with knowledge and tools on sustainability and design, and to apply these principles in both academia and industry
  • Broadens students' views on the various environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability through interdisciplinary assignments and projects

Specialisation Tracks

Specialisation tracks are offered within a Major. They help to guide students in the selection of subjects to build your specialisation.
