For SUTD students
IROP is suitable for students of all levels, offering a valuable entry point into the world of research. It provides an opportunity for you to explore, discover your interests, and engage in hands-on learning through the practical application of knowledge and theories.
For those ready to go further, IROP+ serves as a tailored research programme and focused training platform for SUTD Term 6 undergraduates. With IROP+, you can delve deeper into your research interests and pursue research as a prospective career.

- Experience intensive and advanced research to deepen and strengthen your research skills
- Extend your network and interaction with fellow peers, researchers, graduate students and faculty who share similar research and/or career interests

Supported activities
Eligibility SUTD students looking for an enriching research experience, who are not on Leave of Absence (LOA) or Academic Probation.
Fulfilment requirements To be eligible for IROP certification, you should have satisfactorily completed the research work as evaluated by your supervisor(s).
Project duration Maximum 2 terms
Project funding Successful IROP proposals will be supported with S$1,500 funding for materials and consumables according to the IROP Funding Guidelines.

Supported activities
Eligibility SUTD Term 6 undergraduates who are not on Leave of Absence (LOA), Academic Probation or under Required Withdrawal.
Fulfilment requirements IROP+ is an independent research activity. You will be evaluated by your project supervisor and an independent reviewer (SUTD faculty) at the end of the programme.
Project duration 3 terms (Term 6 to Term 8)
Project funding Successful IROP+ proposals will be supported with S$3,000 funding for materials and consumables to be spent according to the IROP Funding Guidelines.

Call for proposal Students who wish to initiate a research project will have to look for faculty as your project supervisor.Proposals will be submitted by the faculty via SAMS IROP Portal. |
| Week 11 | Student application Students to meet with potential supervisors to discuss project scope and expectations before applying via MyPortal. |
| Week 1 (of the following term) | IROP activity begins Accepted students to contact supervisors to start IROP projects. |

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I am accepted into IROP?
Students will receive an email one week before new term starts. Otherwise, drop us an email at irop@sutd.edu.sg.
I am working on a project but cannot complete within 1 term. What should I do?
You will have to discuss with your supervisor who will then submit a request for project extension to the IROP office. Please note that the maximum duration allowed for an IROP project is 2 terms.
How do I know if I am eligible for an IROP certificate?
At the end of your IROP, you will be evaluated by your project supervisor. If your work is deemed satisfactory, your supervisor will recommend you for an IROP certificate. An email will be sent to you with your e-certificate. Participation will also be recorded in your Fifth Row transcript.
Where can students view the list of projects available?
Projects are available online via MyPortal during the student application period.
Can students participate in IROP more than once?
Yes you can. However, priority will be given to first-time IROPers.
