Picture of lightbulb with the text Value of design innovation

Design Innovation, including the topical areas of Design Thinking, Business Design, Organizational Design, Design Engineering and Systems Thinking, focuses on the development of key mindsets and skillsets for professionals interested in the Innovation Economy, society, and community.

Design may be the single most important factor that will distinguish those that can be replaced by machines from those that are fundamental to a healthy, developed and fair society.

Our design process is user centered and begins with execution of specific design methods. These methods guide activities that lead to desired outcomes. The selection of methods and transition between specific methods is governed by a process or approach. Our 4D process provides an order of action while allowing for sprints, scrums and customization in the overall process. Finally, a culture of design is grown organizationally through ubiquitous mindsets and ‘principles.’ These principles are cherished and adopted into our design community via execution of the methods and approach.

“Our wonderful Design Innovation (DI) team developed an archival DI Methodology Handbook as an open-source publication: Lauff, C., Wee, Y.H., Teo, K., Png, S., Swee, A., Collopy, A.X., Vargas, B., and Wood, K.L., 2021, Design Innovation (DI) Methodology Handbook – Embedding Design in Organizations, ISBN: 978-981-18-1207-1, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) | Anschutz Medical Campus, Singapore.

Please feel free to use and distribute in wonderful ways.”

Professor Kristin Wood

“The methods and mode of presentation and discussion in this handbook are an excellent entry-point for those unfamiliar with the topic and a terrific and fast refresher for those who have been exposed to them. It is highly recommended to all students and professionals in design-related practices.”

Professor Arlindo Silva | Programme Director
