About the Talk

Mr Lim Seng is the founder and director of IN.Genius.

Inspired to give back to the nation and to show Singaporeans that even we, from a small country can go to space, the founder of local tech firm IN.Genius, Mr Lim Seng embarked on a mission to take the first Singaporean to the space.

He named this mission - “1S2S: First Singaporean to Space”. No stranger to space technology, the tech visionary has already made three attempts to get into space with a space capsule designed by IN.Genius.

In this talk, Mr Lim, together with two other SUTD students who are involved in 1S2S will share their extraordinary experiences on this space quest and how SUTD’s multi-disciplinary, design-centric education and its innovative, risk-taking and collaborative culture empower you to embark on similar endeavours.

About Mr Lim Seng

Mr Lim Seng was awarded Government Scholarships to study BSc Mathematics followed by a MSc Electronics Engineering and a Physics Maitrise at the French Grande Ecole in Lyon, and a MSc Computer Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School located in Monterey California, USA. He helped start the design and development of the first Air Force Operations Command Centre for the Ministry of Defence, and was head of the UAV Programme Office for three years.

He was awarded three Star Awards at national level, for innovative contributions (including the first UAV simulator in the world). Triple-hatting as CTO, Senior Advisor and VP for EADS (now Airbus Group) International and Asia Pacific in 2007, Mr Lim was instrumental in the set-up of Singapore EADS R&D lab. In 2010, he initiated and led the Hypersonic Space Plane Demonstrator project in Singapore. He also initiated a techno solutioning competition in Vietnam with VAST, to save fishermen from typhoons.
