Professor Ricky Ang Lay Kee
Head, Science, Mathematics and Technology

Ricky Ang received his Bachelor of Science (1994) from the National Tsinghua University (Hsinchu, Taiwan); and Master of Science (1996) and PhD (1999), both from the Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences, University of Michigan. He was the Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Postdoctoral Fellow in the Applied Physics Division (1999 – 2001).

Before joining the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) in November 2011, he was a tenured Associate Professor in the Division of Microelectronics, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. He was the SUTD’s Director of Graduate Studies (2015 – 2017) and PhD Programme Director (2012 – 2014).

He is a leading expert in the field of electron emission theory, space charge limited current, interface carrier transport and fractional modelling. On these topics, his research is funded by various agencies from Singapore and USA. 

He is currently the Head of Science, Mathematics and Technology (SMT) Cluster, and the Ng Teng Fong Chair Professor for the SUTD-Zhejiang University (ZJU) Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Alliance (IDEA). He received the Singapore Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2017. He is a currently a fellow of IEEE (2022), fellow of UK IOP (2020) and a IEEE Distinguished Lecturer (since 2018).
