Archi(fu)ture Design Challenge 2022

13 Jan 2022 - 15 Jan 2022 10AM to 6PM SUTD

How do we design for the coexistence of vibrant urban living and thriving nature at the same place?

Singapore’s vision of a city in nature is a fundamental shift from prevailing urban design and planning practice that “offset” nature losses somewhere else outside the city. In this 3-day workshop, you will delve into the multi-scalar investigation of the architectural and urban design opportunities that are presented when working towards the vision of a city in nature.

The 3-day workshop targets students interested in learning more about the Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) programme in SUTD. The workshop allows participants a glimpse into the rigour and fun of Architecture in SUTD. It is also a great opportunity to know more about SUTD and ASD through the student facilitators and faculty engagement.

Starting from defining possible relationships of an urban dwelling unit to a tree, you will be asked to experiment with various aggregation configurations that best intensifies such relationships. You will also be equipped with existing evidence of successfully built architectural aggregation strategies, to contextualise their experimentation within the workshop. Proposed urban formations will be played out at the strip of land parcels that are bounded between Nicole highway and Kallang River, allowing a continual site-specific testing on the resolution of the proposed built forms at the urban scale. Workshops will be conducted to allow you to experience various digital design workflows that will supplement your creative process.

You will also be able to tap on what you’ve learnt from this immersive workshop to take part in an optional Design Challenge thereafter and stand to win multiple cash prizes of $200 for various best proposal categories.

Engage in a productive speculation on the future of urban built formations in the nation’s collective goal of living in nature by signing up for this workshop now!
