Hokkien Foundation — SUTD Scholarship

Through the generosity of Hokkien Foundation, this Scholarship is established to encourage outstanding and deserving talent to pursue their undergraduate education in technology and design at SUTD.


ELIGIBILITY

The Scholarship is open to Singapore Citizens & Singapore Permanent Residents who

  • are enrolled in any year of study in any undergraduate degree programme at SUTD;
  • have good academic standing;
  • demonstrated financial need (monthly household Per Capita Income of less than S$2,250);
  • possess good moral character and community spirit;
  • have a passion for technology and design; and
  • are active in Fifth Row (co-curricular activities) and community involvement.


BENEFITS OF AWARD

  • For Singapore Citizens, the Scholarship will be used towards the annual subsidised tuition fees (after Tuition Grant) for the normal duration (up to four years) of the respective degree programmes at SUTD, subject to good academic standing and other terms.  

  • For Singapore Permanent Residents, the Scholarship will be used towards the annual subsidised tuition fees (after Tuition Grant) based on fees payable by Singapore Citizen, for the normal duration (up to four years) of the respective degree programmes at SUTD, subject to good academic standing and other terms.  

  • The quantum will be used towards the annual subsidised tuition fees (after Tuition Grant).

  • No bond is attached to the Scholarship.

  • The recipient must take up the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) from the Singapore Government to enjoy subsidised fees.

  • The Scholarship also covers hostel fees for the Freshmore terms where hostel stay is compulsory (valid only for scholarships awarded to Singaporeans).


TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • The recipient is required to achieve and maintain good academic standing. Academic performance will be reviewed every term.

  • Recipients are required to complete at least 20 hours of service to the University. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.

  • Recipients may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.

  • The scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the University, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.

  • If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.


APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  • Application for the scholarships is made at the same time as application for admission to SUTD.

  • This scholarship may also be available mid-term. Existing students who are eligible will be invited to apply via MyPortal.

  • Late and incomplete submissions will not be processed.

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.

  • SUTD reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.

The Foundation has the mission to provide assistance to aid relief and raise the standard of living of Singaporeans in education, economic, social and cultural areas. The principal activities of the Foundation are the provision for relief of human suffering and fostering education of all kinds.
