Low Ming Wah — SUTD Scholarship

The Low Ming Wah — SUTD Scholarship is established to promote meritocratic access to education and provide opportunities to students with demonstrated financial need.


ELIGIBILITY

The Scholarship is open to Singapore Citizens who

  • are full-time undergraduates enrolled in one of the engineering degree programmes at SUTD;

  • have demonstrated financial need (per capita income of less than S$2,250 per month); and

  • have good academic standing.


BENEFITS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

  • The Scholarship is valued at S$15,000 per academic year and is tenable for one academic year. Successful recipients may apply for the Scholarship in the subsequent academic year, subject to meeting the prevailing eligibility criteria.

  • The Scholarship offers financial support towards the annual subsidised tuition fees and other study-related expenses for one academic year.

  • No bond is required under the terms of this Scholarship. The recipient must take up the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) from the Singapore Government. 


TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Recipients are required to complete at least 10 hours of service to the University. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.

  • Recipients may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.

  • The scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the University, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.

  • If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.


APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  • Existing students who are eligible will be invited to apply via MyPortal.

  • Late and incomplete submissions will not be processed.

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.

  • SUTD reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
     

THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS MADE POSSIBLE BY:

Mr Low Ming Wah is the President, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Micro-Mechanics (Holdings) Ltd which is listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange. He has over 35 years of experience in the semiconductor and precision engineering industry. During the past 28 years, Mr Low held key engineering, manufacturing and management positions in Micro-Mechanics. Currently, he oversees the operations in Asia.

Mr Low is a Council Member and Chairman of the Singapore Precision Engineering & Technology Association (SPETA). He is also the member of the SMEC Internationalization Sub-committee under Singapore Business Federation and a member of Singapore Institute of Directors (SID). He received his diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Hull, UK.

In 2012, Mr Low established bursary fund with Singapore Polytechnic and study grant with the Singapore Institute of Technology in 2015. He is also the Distinguished Patron for Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre that service the residents and needy students.
