Freshmore Asian Cross-curricular Trips (FACT)

Expands learning beyond the classroom and into the region

The SUTD Freshmore Asian Cross-curricular Trips (FACT) is a programme that is incorporated into specific Freshmore courses. FACT offers Freshmore (first-year) students the opportunity to expand their learning beyond the academic mastery gained in SUTD through broadening their horizons overseas. SUTD students will have the exciting opportunity of learning together with students from our partner universities, thereby understanding their way of learning and gaining insights into their local culture.

Students will also have the opportunity to experience multiculturalism and multidisciplinarity in a transnational setting. By gaining cultural, socio-political insights and a better knowledge of the host university and country, students augment their learning beyond the book knowledge gained in these courses while in SUTD, thereby bringing the educational experience to a new level.

Incorporating such short immersion trips as nuggets of learning experience into our Freshmore curriculum, we offer students the opportunity to “see the world” and develop their world view right from the first year. Students are better able to appreciate the notion of applying what they have learnt in the classroom into the real world right from the time they step into SUTD. Students gain regional exposure, which heightens their awareness of what Asia (in particular ASEAN) means and brings to them in terms of economic opportunities and growth.

Egilibility

All full-time undergraduate students in their first year (Freshmore) are eligible to apply and participate in SUTD FACT. To encourage students to open their mindsets and trigger the adventurous spirit in them, SUTD will provide a one-time subsidy to all Freshmore students participating in FACT. This subsidy would help to defray students’ travel expenses (including airfare, accommodation, meals, local transport, travel insurance and applicable visa costs) to make such trips more affordable. Students who enjoy such experiences after their first try are welcome to apply and participate in other trips on a self-paying basis (subject to availability of openings).

Stay tuned for more information on how to apply. Email global@sutd.edu.sg for more enquiries.
