What is GEXP?

  • Spend a term at one of our partner universities worldwide (Term 6 for 2019 intake; fall break after Term 5 or Term 6 for 2020 intake onwards)
  • Grades received will not be counted towards CGPA
  • Earn credits for passed courses towards SUTD degree
  • Continue to pay tuition fees to SUTD while tuition fees at the host university is waived

GEXP Eligibility

  • Enrolled as full-time SUTD Student
  • Sound academic record of CGPA of 3.0 and above at the point of application (students should maintain the CGPA of 3.0 and above every term up till the exchange term without failing any subjects before embarking on exchange)
  • Pass all subjects (students should ensure that any outstanding boot camps or re-tests should not happen during their exchange term)
  • Outstanding Fifth Row records
  • Eager to learn new things, make new friends and embrace new cultures
  • If you are holding any existing scholarship, check and ensure there are no restrictions involving overseas study (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Ministry of Education)
  • Have sufficient financial means to cover necessary expenses for the full exchange duration
  • Motivated to be a strong ambassador for SUTD and Singapore
  • Satisfy host country’s entry requirements for nationality
  • A clean disciplinary record

GEXP Application

  • GEXP online application is open to all Term 4 (for 2019 intake) or Term 3 (for 2020 intake onwards) students in September/October annually. 
  • Students will be informed via email and will be invited to a GEXP information session prior to the online application. 
  • Students who decide to embark on SUTD's official internship must complete all 16 weeks of internship and ensure your GEXP does not clash with the internship period.
  • Students are responsible for doing thorough research on partner universities and course planning. 
  • SUTD decision on the application outcome including allocation and offer of host university is final and cannot be disputed. Request or appeal to change the offered host university will not be entertained. 
  • S​election and exchange offer by SUTD does not constitute an offer of enrolment by the host university. The host university reserves the right to accept or decline a student's application.

Financial Aid

There are various awards and scholarships available to students embarking on GEXP. For more information, please refer to Exchange Scholarships and Awards.

Singapore Citizens with Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) will be able to utilize their PSEA for reimbursement of exchange-related expenses (such as airfare, VISA, accommodation, insurance and transport).

Exchange Scholarships and Awards

Students who are under external scholarships must ensure that they are allowed to receive concurrent awards or scholarships. Students who are under any scholarship that funds their overseas exchange will not be eligible for the following exchange scholarships and awards.

* Priority will be given to students with demonstrated financial need of monthly household PCI (Per Capital Income) of less than SGD2,250.

  • Awarded in pairs of students coming from and going to the same universities, with each pair comprising 1 SUTD student and 1 inbound exchange student

Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED)
Quantum: CAD10,200
  • Singapore Citizens and Citizens of ASEAN member state
  • For selected Canadian host universities
  • Eligible applicants will be nominated to host university, review and award is subjected to host university discretion
  • Successful applicants will not be eligible for other exchange scholarships and awards
